The name of the eighth installment in the “Fast and Furious” franchise has been revealed by no other than Vin Diesel, who announced the news in an Instagram post this week.
The next movie in the series will be titled “Fast 8,” Diesel revealed, complementing the last movie’s — “Furious 7” — format. Diesel also released the first poster for the action movie, showing the sprawling New York City skyline.
Plot details have yet to be revealed. Despite the NYC-set poster, news broke earlier this month that Universal was looking to make “Fast 8” the first major studio film to shoot in Cuba. The filmmakers, however, are still in an exploratory phase of seeking locations.
“Universal Pictures is currently in the process of seeking approval from the United States and Cuban governments to explore shooting a portion of the next installment of the ‘Fast & Furious’ series in Cuba,” a studio spokesperson said of the talks at the time.
“Furious 7,” the last film in the series to feature the late Paul Walker, was a box office behemoth, grossing $1.5 billion globally at the box office to become the sixth highest-grossing movie ever — making the announcement of another film in the franchise hardly a surprise.
